Open Class at the Seward County Fair

The Seward County Fair Open Class gives people of all ages and experience levels an opportunity to showcase their talents, creativity, skills, and hard work. Whether you’ve spent the year perfecting a recipe, tending a garden, working behind the camera, creating artwork, or finishing a quilt, Open Class is your opportunity to bring your best work to the fair.

With a wide variety of divisions and classes available, there is something for nearly everyone. Entries include baking and food preparation, gardening and horticulture, photography, arts and crafts, quilting, sewing, and much more. From longtime exhibitors to those entering for the very first time, everyone is encouraged to participate and be part of this Seward County Fair tradition.

What’s New for 2027

We’re excited to introduce several updates and additions to the 2027 Open Class competition:

• Open to Everyone — Open Class entries are no longer restricted based on county residency. Exhibitors from any county or community are welcome to participate, regardless of where they live.

• Recipes Required for Foods — All entries submitted in the Foods Division must now be accompanied by a recipe.

• New Gluten-Free Classes — Gluten-free classes have been added to the Foods Division, providing even more opportunities for exhibitors to compete.

• Diamond Art Added — Diamond Art is now included as part of the Arts & Crafts Division.

• 2026 Quilt Theme: “Stars & Stripes Forever” — Quilters are invited to showcase their creativity through this year’s patriotic theme.

Before You Enter

Please take time to review the General Rules located at the beginning of the Open Class Premium Book before preparing your entries. Each individual division may also have specific requirements, judging guidelines, entry instructions, or restrictions, so be sure to read the rules listed at the beginning of each division you plan to enter.

Following these guidelines helps ensure entries are properly prepared, entered in the correct class, and ready for judging.
